Music Together® music classes are available for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers throughout the GTA in Brampton, Caledon, and Woodbridge Vaughan with ABC Academy of Music.
ABC Academy is delighted to add the GTA to its Music Together class offerings. ABC assumed operations of Maple Leaf Music Together in August, 2019, after a wonderful 7 year presence in the region.
This world-famous program for mixed-age music classes of children and toddlers ranging from 8 months through 5 years of age. For over 25 years, Music Together® has been bringing children and parents together through music worldwide using ongoing, research-based curriculum and classroom development. Songs, rhymes, movement, and instrument play are all incorporated, giving kids the opportunity to experience a wide range of musical experiences, while building social and activity skills with other children. This nurtures creativity, self-expression, and confidence and supports social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Because these benefits build over time, children enjoy the fullest growth in each of these areas when they participate in Music Together classes as consistently as possible up through kindergarten. The philosophy of Music Together is that all children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and to take an active part in the music that surrounds them, provided that their environment supports this learning experience. Included as part of your tuition is a fresh set of CDs for each session, allowing you to continue Music Together at home every day.
Included with your tuition each semester for you and your child:
Your Family Music Book for the Season
Your Digital Download Code (can be used with the 'Hello Everybody' app (iOS & Android), or downloaded at the online Family Music Zone at musictogether.com
A Free Bonus Spanish Translation book, with Digital Download Code for a fully Bilingual Spanish-English version of the Music
A Student Growth Chart to help you track and guide your development
ABC's Quick-Start Welcome email series, to help you understand how important you are to development, and how to get the maximum enjoyment out of your classes most quickly.
Involving Parents and Caregivers as active role models in this musical learning is central to child development, and to providing ongoing support through an evolving and research-based curriculum. Seeing you engage in music sets the best possible example, and can set a child on the lifelong love of music, which is our central mission at ABC Academy. Any Parent, Grandparent, nanny, or trusted friend can bring the children. Music Together teachers are specially trained, and registered to guarantee the highest standard for bringing a fun and beautiful musical experience to your child.

During the week we have fun singing all the songs, and

We are so fortunate to have stumbled
upon this wonderful programme.
Lots of fun for babies, toddlers, kids,
When we decided to add music classes for children under 5 to our offerings it was with great care that we checked the market of available programs. We are serious about giving even the youngest of children (we currently start at 8 months old), an experience that not only builds basic musical competence, but helps to build bonds and love in a family setting.
As a matter of due diligence, I joined the training with our teacher, so I would know what the classroom was supposed to be like. It was a magical experience for me, and by the end of the training I had decided to teach some classes – this was not the original plan. Still, my passion for music is such that the quality of this program really fired my imagination.
Music Together is not just a thing that kids do on a weekly basis, it becomes a family – and community – event, where deep, ongoing research in early childhood and music education intersect in an invisible way to help build bonds through Music, Instruments, and Physical Expression.
Parents and children will love to know that their teachers are working hard to bring them just the right balance of music every week, carefully planning a diversity of content that spans different music rhythmically, culturally, historically, with a careful structure that balances singing, dancing, movement, instrumental play, and props. Ultimately, Music Together lives up to its name exactly – and makes the time we spend together wonderful! I look forward to welcoming you to our classes anytime!
Songs, Books, CDs, and Curriculum
4 of the 9 Music Collections totalling over 200 songs.
The Music Together® curriculum includes a mix of original songs and traditional tunes from the folk, jazz, and world music traditions in a variety of tonalities and meters. By presenting a range of musical styles from lyrical to blues, from folk to boogie, Music Together provides children with a rich music experience that stimulates and supports their growing music skills and understanding.
Music Together’s nine song collections—each identified by its own color, instrument name, and graphic—are presented in a three-year cycle of three semesters per year. They are non-sequential, so families may join at any semester and attend class any time, enjoying three full years before cycling back to re-experience the collections from their growing children’s ever-changing perspectives. Because music learning is cumulative, with children reaping developmental benefits that build over time, we encourage their participation for as many years as possible from infancy through kindergarten.
The song collections, are each characterized by its own graphic, color, and instrument. These collections each include a recording and songbook and are designed to be used one collection per semester. The collections are not sequential. A family can begin Music Together classes at any time with any collection.
The music is pitched in just the right range for children’s voices and includes songs, rhythmic chants, tonal and rhythm patterns, and instrumental play-alongs, all in a rich variety of tonalities and meters. Original songs and arrangements by the program coauthors make these collections especially unique. Outstanding instrumentalists play a variety of instruments, such as guitar, bass, flutes, keyboards, and percussion. And all of the songs are suitable for mixed-age groups, perfect for childcare centers or families with children of different ages.
Music Together’s song collections are research-based and artistically conceived and produced. They are also classroom- and family-tested. Since 1987, the feedback of hundreds of teachers and thousands of families has been incorporated into these constantly evolving materials.

All of the Details About Changing From Maple Leaf to ABC
Many Thanks to Sarah
I want to express my profound gratitude and appreciation to Sarah Kilts who was a great neighbour, and colleague. It is a loss not just to me, and to you, but also to the other directors and teachers of Music Together in Southern Ontario. Sarah’s humour and creativity are truly exceptional, and we teachers and directors can only strive to fill the endless void her absence will leave.
This year is the start of our 16th, and we feel better equipped than ever to deliver the highest quality services to our families, whether they are Music Together families, or our Private Music Lesson families.
In Toronto we have 2 lesson locations, and 5 Music Together centres. With the addition of Maple Leaf Music Together’s locations, this brings our Music Together locations to 11!
Our teaching team includes roughly 20 teachers, most with degrees in Music or the Arts, and all of whom are required to get a Vulnerable Sector Record Check from local police to be able to work with young children.
I’d like to take a moment to talk about our motto, simply Music Changes Lives.
More than ever, meaningful connection to other people is important, and foundational to the kind of future most of us look forward to for our children; an inclusive, peaceful, happy, and productive future. We believe that making music is foundational to that – we aren’t trying to create professional musicians, but rather people who understand what they hear musically around them, so that they can choose to go out and get that music, and make it home by themselves, with family, or with friends and community. We are trying to save this cultural music-making.
From a more academic and professional standpoint, musical exposure and education provides a wide range of professional skills that no other school subject does.Preparation, focus, coordination, collaboration, presentation, and completion are all vital skills built in to music through an enjoyable medium that will benefit your children from their first day at school, to job interview through the boardroom.
It is our privilege to be the stewards of your journey, and we take our responsibility to you seriously!
Scheduling & Con Español
We are mostly in line with the public school schedule. One exception to this is that we start before school comes back in January, on Saturday the 4th of January. Be sure to check your dates carefully on our schedule.
We do our seasons in 10-week blocks, with no classes on long weekends. With holidays this goes over 3 months per season.
We are very close to finalizing the schedule and what you have seen on Facebook and our website is almost completely accurate.
One of the things that ABC Academy does which is differently from your previous experience is that we include a bonus for all of our Mixed Age and Babies Families every collection: Music Together con Español – an additional booklet with Spanish language translations of the songs, but more importantly a digital access code that allows you to download the bilingual Spanish-English versions of our songs. We encourage all of you to use the bi-lingual versions of the songs as your primary listening. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand Spanish, this additional layer of enrichment for your children will further develop their ears, and will start them on a path to deciphering Spanish, and other languages.
So how does the registration, tuition, and billing work with ABC?
Firstly, we don’t do a seasonal drive for registration. When you register, we reserve your spot until the end of the school year. You don’t have to stay, but this removes forgetting about registration as well as the prospect of losing your spot in the class with all your friends.
Because we serve a lot of different kinds of families, we also don’t bill the whole season at once, but rather monthly. This is based on the 10 classes in a collection of music, over the 3 months that each collection runs. This way, it is more affordable to the many kinds of families we serve, and an easier item to budget for.
All of our billing is electronic and automated. When you register, we bill you for your first month, and then the regular monthly billing starts in your second month of classes. This means that we need to transition you to this system, and to get your billing information going forward.
When we do our re-registration for fall classes, we do it in May of each year. This way you can plan your weekly schedule well in advance and in balance with activities for the other members of your family.
Preferred Payment Method – Void Cheque or PAP Form
Our preferred method of payment is using a void cheque or a PAP form (which has the same information as a cheque). We can take credit cards, but we ask you to please consider using the preferred method, as it is 25x less expensive for us – yes 25x less expensive. When you use the void cheque or PAP for, this helps us keep tuition down and accessibility up for as many families as possible.
On the subject of accessibility, I’d like to tell you about our referral program.
We know that music activities are not the cheapest activity, but we do believe that music activities are the most beneficial and meaningful to your children over the long term.
Our Referral Program
To help our families, we offer a very strong referral program. If you refer a new family to ABC, you get 20% off, your friend gets 20% off, and you both get that to the end of the school year. This is almost two free months. This is off the first child in a family only. Your friends can also start referring people immediately.
Additionally, this is an unlimited program. This means that you can refer as many families as you want to, and we’ll keep taking 20% increments off your tuition. If you make it free, we’ll start applying it to the following school year.
You can do this every school year.
Also, since you were going to spend that money with us anyway, we encourage you to take that money and put it into your children’s RESPs. If you do that, and haven’t reached your matching limit, the government will match another 20% of your donation. That’s free money for your child’s future. In this way, we can partner with you on your children’s education.
So what do our fees look like?
It is our hope to start our private music lessons in the fall of 2020. Location and timing is to be determined.
If you are a scholarship family, please call the office and ask for me directly, or leave a message that you would like to speak to me about scholarships. I will be happy to assist you directly.
How We Communicate
At this time we only communicate by phone. We understand that many of you as busy parents are struggling to find time, but we have found that digital communication is very back-and-forth, which takes a lot longer than a human conversation – plus we like talking to you!
You’ll notice that our digital systems send out emails and text messages, but these are only one-way. You can’t answer them.
Feedback, Spreading the Word, and Reviews
We can only be as good as the information we have from the people we work for and with, and you are both of those as our families.
If anything has ever been in need of improvement, or you find that something does need improvement in the future, please let us know. We cannot fix what we don’t know about, and if you don’t tell us, we may never know.
Tell Your Friends or Strangers, Get the 20% Referral Credit
This acquisition of Maple Leaf Music Together is a big deal for us. It is a big investment, and we would like your help in a couple of areas to help fill our classes. Please spread the word. Post in groups that you might be a part of on Facebook and share the referral program information – as long as they use your name, we will give you and them the discount.
Reviews, We’ll Need Your Help!
We’ll also have Google listings up soon for each of our locations, and will send you a separate note about this, but we hope that you will take the time to write us a 5-star review alongside your Music Together story. Telling people about your musical journey makes all the difference.
How to Register
Here is what is happening, in order, so we can get to your registration:
We are transferring the entire Maple Leaf database into our system (hopefully done this weekend).
We will then book all of the people into the classes who registered with Maple Leaf before that system was taken offline. Your spots are secure. If your class time has moved, we will call you about that. We will also call you to update your booking/billing information to align with our annual spot reservation and automatic billing.
General registration will then open – we’ll email, post on social, and call you (if you were registered in the last year). Anyone who has called us in the meantime will be called first, in sequence of their call.
You are welcome to call us at any time: 416-651-7529. We’ll add you to the list of call-backs once registration opens.
Questions from Online
We received a few questions online. Here they are:
Q: When will the dates/times be confirmed for the Brampton classes?
A: They are almost all confirmed for timings. We will post/email as soon as that is squared away, and 90% accurate on the existing Facebook post that has the schedule.
Q: Will you be offering any drop in classes for a fee?
A: No. We do have free demo classes for new families that have not yet registered, but Music Together and Rhythm Kids are curricular classes. The benefits are only obvious over time, and in the company of your class community (that’s the magic!). We want all of our families to have the best, most memorable, and satisfying experience, and doing a one-off drop-in, or occasional paid drop-ins doesn’t align with that. If you have a long vacation, or are sick, we will work with you to see if it makes sense to come for the weeks you are available.
