Trumpeter Dylan Rook Maddix is quickly building a reputation as a performer, teacher and conductor. Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, he is currently a member of Confederation Brass and has held the position of principal trumpet and trumpet coach of the award winning New Brunswick Youth Orchestra since 2012. A prize-winner at the 2011 & 2014 National Music Festival, Dylan has been featured soloist with the Greater Moncton Chorale and Orchestra, the PEISO, Mount Allison University Symphonic Band and Strathgartney Chamber Orchestra. His musicality and professionalism have led him to numerous programs, competitions and ensembles in Canada and the United States including the Scotia Festival of Music, Charlottetown Festival, Festivals of Music in New York City, Indian River Music Festival and Music Fest Canada.

As a conductor and educator, Dylan has been active in both choral and instrumental music. He has served as conductor to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian choir in Sackville, NB and as musical director of the Garnet and Gold Musical Theatre Society 2012 – 2014. He has been a conducting fellow with the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra and guest conductor with the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, Mount Allison University Symphonic Band and Mount Allison Chamber Orchestra. His conducting teachers include Mark Hopkins, Gillian MacKay, Gayle h Martin, James Kalyn, David Klob, and Antonio Delgado. Dylan shares his passion for music by teaching at the VIVA Music Camp and has taught at the University of New Brunswick Music Camp.

Dylan is a graduate of Mount Allison University and is currently pursuing his Masters of Music Degree in Trumpet Performance at the University of Toronto where he studies with Jim Spragg. His teachers have included Dan St. Amand, Alan Klaus and Linda Pearse. He has also worked with brass performing artists Aaron Hodgson, Jens Lindemann, Jeff Nelsen, Ingrid Jensen and most recently, Guy Few.
