An avid performer constantly seeking to expand the boundaries that define both classical and non-classical music, Heather Macdonald is a Toronto-based oboist involved in a wide variety of projects. Heather has collaborated with performers ranging from Shakespearean actors, to clowns, to yoga teachers, to poets, to rock and jazz musicians, to emerging classical composers.

Heather has founded and performed with several original chamber groups, including the O Boi oboe trio and the latin jazz trio Trio Sol. She has also played in various woodwind quintets, oboe quartets, rock groups and other ensembles. As an orchestral musician, she has performed with orchestras such as Euphonia, the Sudbury Symphony, the North Bay Symphony, the Brampton Symphony, the Mississauga Symphony and the Scarborough Philharmonic.

Heather has an Artist Diploma from The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory in Toronto, where she studied with former Toronto Symphony principal oboist Richard Dorsey. She completed a Bachelor of Music in oboe performance at the University of Ottawa’s School of Music, under the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s principal oboist Charles Hamann.

In addition to performing, Heather loves to ride her bicycle, paint, and do yoga.
