Hi everyone,

Here are your assignments for this week:

Will

Recommended minutes to practice: 20-30 minutes per day

What to practice: Review the first two pages of “Tom Sawyer” by Rush and start working on the new section at the end of page 3.

How to practice it most effectively: The new section starts at the beginning of the last line of page 3. This is very similar to the section on the last few lines of page 1 but with different fills. Practice the fills from the new section first. Pay close attention to the rhythm of each fill and also which drum it is played on. After that, try to play the fills together with the beat.

Elliot

Recommended minutes to practice: 15-20 minutes per day

What to practice: Begin practicing the half-measure exercises from the “Lesson 6” page: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10YGpSqgr9Z2SExyhXz7k1evG3C0t2VEc?usp=sharing

How to practice it most effectively: Try to at least get through the first six exercises on this page. Take them slow and focus on keeping a steady pulse on the hi-hat in every exercise. The most important thing with this page is that you learn to play different rhythms on the bass drum and snare drum without changing what your right hand is playing on the hi-hat. The hi-hat is your time keeper and it needs to stay steady.

Noah

Recommended minutes to practice: 15-20 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice the first eight exercises from your Stick Control book and also start reviewing the beats and fills from Arabella.

How to practice it most effectively: With the stick control exercises, focus on always keeping a steady rhythm with the eighth notes. All the notes should be evenly spaced out so that the rhythm always sounds the same. First practice playing them hand-to-hand on the snare drum. Then move all the right hand notes onto the floor tom while the left hand notes stay on the snare drum. Finally, move the right hand notes onto the bass drum while the left hand notes stay on the snare. Also, experiment with playing each exercise at different speeds.

Koel

Recommended minutes to practice: 15-20 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice the accent patterns we worked on as well as the half-measure from Lesson 5: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SCS8WVjfR1OZVlYmt8a1r2LTxo2NJOpN?usp=sharing

Caroline

Recommended minutes to practice: 10-15 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice the rhythms and coordination exercises that we worked on in your lesson.

How to practice it most effectively: Start by reading the rhythms that I wrote down on your page and play them on the snare drum. Play each one starting with the left hand, then starting with the right hand. Then practice moving these rhythms around the drums. Use all of the toms and you can even incorporate the cymbals too. Then practice the bass/snare rhythms and the bass/snare/hi-hat rhythms. Be sure to keep a steady beat with each rhythm.
