Always wear a guitar strap. That’s a rule. Whether sitting down or standing up.
Goal: 6 days x 45 minutes. If not possible, then 6 days x 15 minutes at least.
15 minutes: Scales. C Major and A minor pentatonic. With a metronome, at 40BPM; one note per beat.
Listen to About a Girl as well as Paint it Black at least 3 times this week each.
15 minutes: About a Girl. Play the E minor and G Major chords the way they’re played in this song. The maximum speed to play these at is the tempo of the song; don’t go any faster than this.
Additional things to do:
  • find the guitar strap and always practice and play the guitar with it on. (If it’s lost, then please get a new one.)
  • get a capo.
  • find the notebook for class for next week.
  • if you don’t already have these, then please buy the following books and bring them to class. These are the Amazon links for them.

Elementary Music Theory Book 1

RCM Four Star Sight Reading and Ear Tests Level 1

Guitar Method Book 1

  • only practice with a guitar pick (for now). Bring a guitar pick to class next week.
15 minutes: Chords. Play the chords C, G, and E minor while standing up with the guitar. At no specific tempo; just experiment with how to hold the guitar in the most efficient and strong possible way. I want you to practice like this, Efe, because when standing, it’s a little easier to manipulate how you hold the guitar, as I was telling you. With the strap on, you’re able to stand and play. Aim to make your wrists as straight and comfortable as possible while playing these chords.
Remember: keep the guitar’s head somewhat upward from the floor, as well as somewhat pushed forward from your body. As I was showing you in class.
This link has videos of the scales being played at 40 BPM. It also has pictures of the chords I’ve asked you to practice this week with their proper fingerings.
