Hi Everyone,

Here are your assignments for this week:

Hugo

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 min/day

What to practice: Fingerpicking between two chords from the key of D major with the Metronome

How to practice it most effectively: One note for every two clicks, 4 notes per chord. Some suggested speeds: 80, 60, 100, 120

Jack

What to practice: Demons + Note Reading review

How to practice it most effectively: Check out the new part to “Demons” from today, note that the 3rd line is almost the same as the first with just a couple notes missing, but the 4th line is the same as the 2nd! Bonus, start reviewing the songs written with notes on the staff.

How parents can support practice: Encouraging Jack to pick up the guitar at home, is a great way to support practice.

Jett

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 min/day

What to practice: Jingle Bells

How to practice it most effectively: Play the notes to the song along with a metronome, remember that for quarter notes (first few notes off the top) you will hear 2 clicks per note.

How parents can support practice: Encourage Jett to continue picking up the instrument each day.

Hythem

Recommended minutes to practice: 10 min/day 4 times a week

What to practice: Drag Me Down

How to practice it most effectively: Check out the new part we added on today, note that it’s quite similar to the first parts but with a few variations – take some time to focus on this song for this week.

How parents can support practice: Encourage Hythem to continue picking up the instrument and taking a look at his lesson materials.

Maurya

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 min/day

What to practice: Chords to Hotel California

How to practice it most effectively: Go through the chords to the song, out of time, without strumming. Start with the first chord and check that you have the correct fingering and hand position. Once you have the first, move on to the second, then review the first and second before you move on to the third. Continue going through the chords like this until you’ve gone through everything!

How parents can support practice: Encourage Maurya to continue picking up the guitar each day.

Ian

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 min/day

What to practice: Barring with First Finger + Writing/Composition

How to practice it most effectively: For the first finger bar, a couple pointers for hand position 1. Hyper-extend first finger 2. Thumb on back of guitar at 2nd fret pointing towards the sky 3. Arm out 4. Roll hand underneath the guitar towards you. Start by covering 2 strings, then aim for 3, 4, 5, and 6. For writing/composing, aim to come up with a 2nd section for the chords & rhythm we looked at today, two options to consider 1. Changing the chords 2. Changing the number of bars spent on each chord.

Aria

Recommended minutes to practice: 10 min/day

What to practice: Chords + Yankee Doodle

How to practice it most effectively: Review chord shapes G, C, and D that we looked at today, also take another look at Yankee Doodle, focusing on the timing of the song, note that the ends of the 2nd and 4th bars have two long notes back to back. Bonus – review previous songs and we’ll take a look at some next week as well.

How parents can support practice: Encourage Aria to continue picking up the instrument each day is a great way to support practice.

Have a good week everyone!
