As today was more of a “get to know you” lesson and getting up to speed on what you were working on, I’ll not post much here today. I’ll have time this week to pick out some new repertoire for you all based on what you were working on with Virginia.

We worked on:
Long tone swells
Bemsha swing- using your tongue, not your throat to articulate.
Additive ear training game- do it on your own to make up melodies!
Goals/things for us to work on: Improvising, syncopation and playing in time, dynamics
JONATHAN LEVITT
Pick 5 standards of varying “vibes” to bring to Florida.
Work on the first Klose 25 Daily Studies.
Goals/things for us to work on: Improvising/soloing, playing in time, work towards playing with other people and playing in front of people.
NOAH MATHEMA
We worked on scales, high D to F and Sidewinder and listened to Watermelon Man.
What to practice: check out Watermelon Man, practice the new notes we learned (high Eb, E, F and Low C)
KOLLEL WESTBY
We played through major scales, Bemsha swing, and did ear training
What to practice: Tongueing (the two types, dut and da) and low notes (open throat like you’re saying Ah).
VICTOR HENRY
We played through major scales (F, G, Bb), some of the standards you know and did ear training.
What to practice: Refresh yourself on the A scale and work on the high C scale
