We have established the following goals for the coming school year:
In terms of mallets, we will continue with weekly scales arpeggios, start mallet lessons with 10 minutes of sight-reading exercise
Repertoire wise, we will be looking at rag times and build mallet dexterity with it. We will also always aim to play it at concert speed, and practise good practising habits by using metronome.
On the side of drums, here are a few tunes we listened to together that we might try for the coming school year:
Can’t stop (Jonah like more) by Red hot chilli pepper
Hysteria by Muse
Basket Case (Jonah likes too) by Green Day
Brainstorm by Artic Monkey
We will start with Can’t Stop and I encourage Jonah to listen to these tunes and the other songs by these bands at home and figure out what sort of band music he is interested in.
