Hi Everyone,

Here are your assignments for this week:

Hugo

Recommended minutes to practice: 10 min/day

What to practice: Stairway to Heaven Solo

How to practice it most effectively: Try playing with the metronome at different speeds. 30-80

Jack

Recommended minutes to practice: 10 min/day

What to practice: Ob-Li-Di-Ob-La-Da

How to practice it most effectively: Start checking this one out, section by section, line by line and we’ll look at this again next time!

How parents can support practice: Encourage Jack to continue picking up the guitar and taking a look at his lesson materials.

Hythem

Recommended minutes to practice: 10 minutes/day

What to practice: We’re Not Gonna Take It

How to practice it most effectively: Take it one section at time, these are the notes separated by lines on your sheet. Step one is go through the notes in the section, check with the sheet that you’re playing the notes that are on the sheet. Step two is once you have the notes, play them 3 times in a row before moving on to a different section. Try doing these steps first, before playing through the whole song.

How parents can support practice: Encourage Hythem to continue picking up the guitar and taking a look at his lesson materials.

Ian

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 min/day

What to practice: Scale Pattern – up, up, down with Alternate Picking. Blues – alternate between chords and notes. Rhythm sheet. Fingerpicking.

How to practice it most effectively: Scale Pattern – work on getting familiar with this, saying counting (1+2+3+4+) would be an additional challenge you could try here. Blues – don’t worry about the timing here, try playing just a few notes when you’re playing notes, and when playing chords just one strum on the chord. Review the rhythms on the sheet and check out the new ones added today, say the counting and play the rhythms on guitar as either notes or chords. Review the fingerpicking example from last week as well.

Aria

Recommended minutes to practice: 10 min/day

What to practice: #9-13 in Hal Leonard Book, Rolling In The Deep

How to practice it most effectively: For the exercises in the book, play with a metronome at 70 beats per minutes. For “Rolling In The Deep”, listen to the song and see if you can hear the parts you’re playing on the guitar, listen for long notes and short notes as well.

How parents can support practice: Encourage Aria to continue picking up the guitar and taking a look at her lesson materials.

Have a good week everyone!
