About Apprenticing
At ABC we apprentice teachers after they do their teacher training, which is different from many Music Together centres around the world. Most centres apprentice before training, and then send their teachers into the classroom to teach. At ABC, we feel that the training, which is 25 hours over 3 days, is too overwhelming and intense to have teachers jump into teaching on their own right away. To this end, we have developed an in-house apprenticeship program that is gradual and over 10 weeks (a full collection of music) to allow teachers to gradually, comfortably, and effectively integrate into teaching. This allows for you and other families to have the best possible experience. The process includes weekly feedback, two video reviews, peer teacher feedback, and director feedback. It is comprehensive!
If you have any questions, concerns or feedback about your apprentice teachers, please reach out to us at any time, and we’ll happily take the information to help improve your experience. Don’t be shy – this is how we become excellent!
Update on Fall Apprentices and Schedule Changes (GTA locations)
This past fall we apprenticed both April and Arif. They are currently in the final stages of the process, and are both doing well.
You may see some adjustment in your class schedule. In particular, we expect Arif to assume teaching of all Bramalea North classes by the end of January, 2020.
Some of you will also see Kristin Day coming back to teaching from parental leave. She will be teaching in Caledon on Thursdays this winter, and perhaps in Bramalea South. Kristin is well experienced and teaches Babies, Mixed-Age, and Rhythm Kids classes in addition to Bassoon for ABC.
