Hi everyone,

Here are your assignments for this week:

Elliot

Recommended minutes to practice: 15-20 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice playing all the way through Black Dog using the sheet music available here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10YGpSqgr9Z2SExyhXz7k1evG3C0t2VEc?usp=share_link

How to practice it most effectively: You’ve done really great work with this song! The last step is to try to put it all together. Use the sheet music to help you practice all the way through the song from start to finish. Also, use the recording of the song as a reference in case anything in the sheet music is confusing. Next lesson we will try to play all the way through the song without stopping.

Jared

Recommended minutes to practice: 10-15 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice all the drum beats from you page (especially #9-12) and also work on  creating some of your own drum fills.

How to practice it most effectively: First practice playing the drum beats slowly. Make sure that you have the proper rhythm on the bass drum and that the snare drum is always playing on 2 and 4. Then, once the beat starts to feel more comfortable, practice playing it a little bit faster. See how fast you can go without losing control. With the drum fills, try making up some of your own fills and practice playing them together with a drum beat. Remember to keep a steady pulse!

Noah

Recommended minutes to practice: 15-20 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice up to measure 17 of “Black Dog” by Led Zeppelin if you can using the sheet music provided here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Dga1ZBRWaN_Ka4O1G009w-74c4VaZCj7?usp=sharing

How to practice it most effectively: The two new parts of this song that we worked on in your lesson are the fill in measure 9 (snare bass tom) and the beginning of the new beat starting half way through measure 13. Practice these parts slowly and try to put them together with what comes before and what comes after. If anything in the sheet music is confusing, we will talk about it at your next lesson. You can also listen to the recording of the song to remind yourself what the rhythms should sound like.

Koel

Recommended minutes to practice: 15-20 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice playing at least two lines of rhythm from the page I gave you last week.

How to practice it most effectively: First practice playing the rhythms with both hands on the snare drum while keeping a steady pulse on the bass drum. This is the best way to learn the rhythm and to get to know the sound of the rhythm. Be sure not to change the rhythm of the bass drum. The snare notes need to fit within this pulse. Then, take the same lines of rhythm and practice playing them with the left hand on the snare drum while you keep a steady pulse on the cymbal and bass drum together.
