Hi everyone,

Here are your practice assignments for this week:

Will

Practice the new two bar rhythms that we worked on this week. Try to always play them straight through without stopping. If there is one part of the rhythm that you’re having trouble with, then play just that part several times in a row until it is correct. Then go back to playing the whole thing through.

Oscar

Great work on the jazz rhythms this week! Look up some swing tracks on Youtube and practice playing along with them. The two that we did in your lesson were 85 beats per minute and 110 beats per minute. Try to find other ones that are faster and slower than that. Down to 60bpm and up to 150bpm.

Isaac

Practice the drum fill from the song Freedom that we worked on this week. Remember to practice it slowly to ensure that you are playing it correctly. Then try to play it at the speed of the song. Also work on the transition from the main beat into the fill. Play the main beat 3 times in a row and then the fill once.

Nate

Continue to practice the jazz beats and rhythms that we have been working on. Remember that when we play swing, everything needs to have a “triplet feel.” This means that when you play rhythms, you should be able to count triplets along with what you are playing: “1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a” etc. Have a great show at the recital!

Alexy

Review beats # 6 and 7 from the sheet that I gave you. They are tricky because the bass drum does not play on 3. Practice just the snare drum and bass drum together and try to memorize the sound of the beat. Then add in the hi-hat. Remember not to play from your elbows but rather use your wrists to generate the motion of the sticks.
