Hi everyone,

Here are your homework assignments for this week:

Oscar

Keep working on “Black Dog” by Led Zeppelin. Remember to always practice slowly. By taking the time to count out loud and play each rhythm under tempo, you will get a better sense for how everything fits together. There are a few elements in this song that have tricky timing, but you can learn these effectively through slow practice.

Ronin

Take a look at the drum notation for “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.” See how much of it you can play through without stopping. If you have any questions about the notation, please take note of them and we’ll go over it next week. We’ll also try playing some of the song with the recording.

Leonie

Practice the new funk beats that were new this week. Focus on trying to feel each beat, especially  the ones that you don’t play (beat 3). In order for these syncopated rhythms to groove, you need play each note in correct relationship to the beat, whether it’s the sixteenth note just before, or just after.

Nathan

Take a look at the new beat that we worked on from “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Practice it slowly in order to make sure you’re playing the rhythm correctly. Remember to count the rest out loud so that you don’t make it too short or too long. Next week we’ll come back to this beat and work on it some more.

Benjamin

Great job with the accents this week! Keep practicing your accent patterns at home as much as you can. Focus on keeping the non-accented notes very soft. And remember to always count out loud while you play.
