Hi Grade 7-12s!
As promised, here are some Bach Videos that I really like.
Toccata and Fugue in D minor
First, there’s the famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor:
The ‘Little’ Fugue in G minor
Then, there’s the very famous Little Fugue in G minor. This version is excellent, because it gives you a very strong view of how voicing works in fugues. Remember, Bach was also a huge composer of choral music, so having different ‘voices’ was a core of his musical compositions.
Passacaglia in C minor
One of the amazing things about Bach’s music is how well it translates to other instruments. Here is one of my favourite examples, the Passacaglia in C minor, played by 8-part Trombone Ensemble.
The Passacaglia is great, and is a form of theme-and-variation which is common to music, regardless of style.
Popcorn
Since we’re talking about theme-and-variation, here is a more modern example of how one tune can be changed, but stay the same.
Enjoy!
Barnaby.
