Hi everyone,

Here are your homework assignments for this week:

Michelle

Practice the new beat we worked on from the song “Tighten Up” by the Black Keys. Focus on making the 16th notes even and steady. Also try playing the variation of the beat at the end of each 4-bar phrase. Listen to the song a few times this week to help you get familiar with it.

Oscar

Keep working on “Black Dog.” It sounds really good, but you just have to work out the timing on a few sections. Listening to the song will help a lot with this. Focus especially on the fill after the second break. Count out loud and try to anticipate when it starts.

Ronin

Review “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’” before the next lesson. We’ll play it at least once next week in preparation for the recital. Also, take a look at the new syncopated beats that we worked on. Practice just the bass drum and snare drum rhythms first, then try to add the hi-hat. Keep it slow and remember to count.

Leonie

The main beats from “Dani California” sound really great! This week, work on the fills and transitions throughout the song. Practice getting from the end of one section into the beginning of the next. Also, listen to the song a few times to help you get familiar with it.

Nathan

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” sounds great! Focus this week on tightening up the section at the end of the chorus with the flam on the snare drum. You know where this section is, so try to anticipate it when you’re playing the song so that you’re ready for the flam.

Benjamin

Take a look at the new rhythms that we worked on this week. As always, practice counting them out loud, and then play them with your sticks. Focus on identifying which notes are eighth notes and which are sixteenth notes.
