Hi everyone,

Here are your practice assignments for this week:

Aidan

Great work this week on both the Bossa Nova beat and the new syncopated rock beats! Practice each of them this week in order to develop more consistency, especially at faster speeds. The way to do this is to practice them first at a slow speed, then gradually increase the speed. Only go as fast as you can play the beats accurately. Also, I’m very sorry for shortening your lesson this week. It was unintentional. I just had it in my head for some reason that your lesson was only 30 minutes. We’ll make up for it next week.

Josh

Practice the beats from “Say It Ain’t So” by Weezer this week. Practice moving your right hand from the ride cymbal to the hi-hat and back again during the verses. Also, practice transitioning between the verse and the chorus. It’s a good idea to listen to the song a few times when you are practicing. This will help you to get the sound and feel of the song in your hear. Next week we will work on the bridge section and some of the fills.

Practice the new drum beats that we worked on this week. First, look at which beats the bass drum plays on (1, 2, 3, or 4), then look at which beats the snare drum plays on. The hi-hat plays on all four beats every time. Try to play all three parts together at the same time. Remember to keep a steady speed when you play and to count out loud each beat. Also, practice playing the drum beats in combination with the rhythms we learned last week.
