Here are your homework assignments for this week:
Review all the open hihat beats that you have worked on so far. Practice all of them slowly, and then try speeding up the ones that you are comfortable with. Some of them you should be able to do fairly quickly while others will have to stay slow. We’ll go through each of them next week.
Practice all of the new triplet-based drum beats from this week and last week. Do everything slow first before you speed it up. Remember to count the triplets in your head while you are playing. This will help you to keep the rhythms even.
Try to find some time this week to sit down and practice the rhythms from your book, even if it’s only for 10 minutes or so. You can also practice to coordination exercises with each of your hands and feet.
Keep working on the syncopated funk beats. Practice everything slowly and listen carefully to make sure the rhythms sound even. Also continue to practice the snare/bass warm-up exercise at a variety of speeds.
