Hi everyone,

With the transition to ZOOM video lessons, I am no longer able to write down notes and musical material in the students’ books/binders. Instead, I have created PDF documents for each of you and dropped them into a Google Drive folder. The link to your documents is listed in the What to practice heading under your name below. You should be able to access the documents simply by clicking on the link. Here are your practice assignments for this week:

Damian

Recommended minutes to practice: 5-10 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice playing the verse, chorus, and solo section of “Back in Black” by ACDC: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jaROP8emrq7yGkV13Mt_Js4NVtEz-sCl?usp=sharing

How to practice it most effectively: Practice each of the beats from the different sections of the song. Read the sheet music carefully and play through it section by section. Then, go back and work on connecting the different sections: play the last bar of the verse together with the first bar of the chorus. Do the same thing with the chorus going back into the verse, and then with the chorus going into the solo section.

Koel

Recommended minutes to practice: 10-15 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice the guitar solo section of “Smoke on the Water”: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SCS8WVjfR1OZVlYmt8a1r2LTxo2NJOpN?usp=sharing

How to practice it most effectively: Play through this whole sections slowly to ensure that you can play all the rhythms properly. Take the time to read the notation to ensure accuracy. As you make the transition from page 3 to page 4, be sure not to speed up. Focus on the quarter note pulse which transfers from the bass drum to the ride cymbal. This pulse needs to stay consistent.

Jonathan

Recommended minutes to practice: 20-30 minutes per day

What to practice: Practice playing along with “Blue Train” by John Coltrane and “Take Five” by Dave Brubeck: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GxopIaGPN0UhwG3zk4gQWTnEaDDL7TWP?usp=sharing

How to practice it most effectively: Link to Blue Train: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT_Zs5FKDZE  Link to Take Five: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmDDOFXSgAs Take a look at the notation I have provided for “Take Five.” Practice this beat slowly and remember to keep the ghost notes (bracketed notes) soft on the snare.
