Hi Everyone,
****Please note that as I’m away next week, Jay will be here as your substitute teacher. Refer to your homework posts this week as I’ll be sending a copy over to Jay as well.
Here are your assignments for this week:
Hugo
What to practice: D major Scale in 2nd position and 4th position.
How to practice it most effectively:
Jack
Recommended minutes to practice: 3 times a week, 5-10 minutes.
What to practice: Demons by Imagine Dragons
How to practice it most effectively: Remember 2 key areas to making it “sound like the song” are notes and rhythms. Notes are indicated with the tab, and rhythms are included as “short (s)” or “long (L)” for now.
How parents can support practice: Aim for 3 times a week, start with 5-10min sessions. Great if you can play together but Jack also has everything he needs to practice on his own.
Jett
Recommended minutes to practice: 15 min/day
What to practice: Jingle Bells + Rhythms
How to practice it most effectively: Play through Jingle Bells, by memory for bonus. Take a look at Rhythm #1 as well with a metronome at a speed range of 70-100.
How parents can support practice: It would be great if Jett could bring a folder to keep his lessons materials in.
Hythem
Recommended minutes to practice: 10 min/day
What to practice: Radioactive
How to practice it most effectively: Take it one bar at a time and take some time to focus in on a few notes, and getting the transitions. Then look at pasting sections together, 2 bars at a time, then 4 bars at a time and the whole song at once.
How parents can support practice: Regular practice will be key to Hythem’s progress moving forward, start with 5 min sessions, as many days a week as is possible.
Maurya
Recommended minutes to practice: 30 min/day
What to practice: Hotel California w/ “syncopated” strumming.
How to practice it most effectively: Strum along with the metronome, 55bpm is a good starting place. Remember to use downstrums for numbers (1, 2, 3, 4) and upstrokes of “ands” (+).
How parents can support practice: Encourage Maurya to continue picking up the guitar each day.
Ian
Recommended minutes to practice:
What to practice: Chord Transitions with Metronome and Barring
How to practice it most effectively: Play with the metronome, and try a range of different speeds. Remember, step one is to say the counting along with the metronome, and then step two is to play the guitar the same way you would say the counting.
Aria
Recommended minutes to practice: 10 min/day
What to practice: Chords to Yankee Doodle + C major scale
How to practice it most effectively: Yankee Doodle, take it chord by chord and work on getting from one to the next as quick as you can, for C major start looking at the notes, up and down the scale.
How parents can support practice: Encourage Aria to continue picking up the guitar each day.
Have a good week everyone!
