Homework assignments for Monday, January 25, 2021
Hello Everyone!
Here is the homework for this week!
Enjoy!
Julian
Recommended daily practice time is 5-10 minutes per day
Songs:
We have completed Level C in the faber adventure books! Congratulations Julian! We are now moving onto the level 1 Faber adventure book. We tried out both Firefly and Little River. You can play these during the week. Remember to tap and count before you play then count out loud as you play once you are comfortable.
Theory:
We also learned about Legato today. Legato means to play smoothly. I like to call this sticky fingers. Each note is held until you play the next note. So they stick together. Legato is shown on the music with a curved line. Look out for them!
How parents can help: Encourage your child to have a daily practice routine and ensure that they are filling out their homework logs correctly. In addition to the online homework posts, I recommend that each student keep and maintain a homework journal where they can fill in how long they practice and what they worked on that week. You can decorate it to make it fun!
Zoe
Recommended daily practice time is 30 minutes per day
Songs:
This week we will stick to our plan and tackle Burlesque in G major, Swirling leaves, and Climb up on an Elephant. These will be for our exam, so be sure to go through them carefully.
Technique:
We have A, E and D minor scale to review for this week. Hands separately and you must look at the Harmonic and natural version of each scale. You must also play through the triads both broken and solid triads.

Songs:
Good work this week Renaud! We will continue to work on Grandmother this week. Try getting a family member to play it for you, have a listen then try playing it yourself. You also have All my friends. For this song try clapping the rhythm before you play. Once you feel comfortable, try playing it on the piano.

Carmen
Recommended daily practice time is 10-15 minutes per day
Songs:
This week we worked on memorizing Pirate of the North Sea. Continue trying to memorize the whole song and be sure to count while you play it! You may also try it with the metronome set to a comfortable speed. You also have Peter Pan and Aardvark Boogie. As always counting and playing is very important. You also need to watch out for staccatos, legatos and dynamics. As an addition, try recording yourself to help you memorize your song. Listen to it a bunch of times!
Technique:
We are continuing with our scales and this week you can try out a flat scale. F Major. Before playing be sure to review how many flats it has as well as what fingers you will be using to play the scale.

Songs:
We are continuing our work on Monkeys. This week we talked about how important it is to read and understand the text. Go through each word and make sure you know what everything means. If you don’t know something, don’t be afraid to ask a grownup for help! In addition to reading the text, try singing with just the piano track and remember there are 8 claps before you come in! For warm-ups this week, use the recording we made of our lesson to help you!

NEW! Online Teacher Chats
Dear Students and Parents!
We are excited to announce we are testing an online chat with your teacher this spring.
For many years we have been looking for a solution to implement a way for you to directly contact your teacher without compromising teachers’ privacy, while maintaining accountability to the front desk for scheduling matters.
We think that we may now have a solution that will allow for this, and will be testing it from now until the end of June.
How do you use this?
It is very simple. Start by going to your teacher’s page:
You will see the chat on the right-hand side of the page.

There is a #general channel, which is where you will always start, and which we will use for school-wide announcements.
This is followed by your #teacher-name channel, which you can use to chat directly with your teacher.
To start using the chat, please click the green ‘Join this chat’ button. You will be prompted on how to access the chat. It is possible that you will also be able to download the app that drives this chat, Slack. If that turns out to be the case, you should be able to bypass using the website, and communicate directly from your phone or home computer. We are not sure about this, at present.
Please note
- we are not requiring our team to respond to messages in real-time. For the test period we are asking them respond within 48h, or as soon as is practical for them. Our teachers have many things on their plates, and we want to be sure this system will be as practical for them as we hope it will be for you.
- you cannot use this for scheduling, and teachers have been instructed to direct any and all scheduling queries to the front desk, as is currently the case.
- for anything that is time sensitive, you should call the office.
- bear in mind that this is essentially a public forum, which means that anything you post will be visible publicly.
- we will be monitoring these channels and may interact with you directly.
That’s it! We look forward to seeing you in chats with your teacher, and encourage you to test it out by saying hello to your teacher just to see if it works, and even if you don’t have a question right now. We may call you over the next couple of months to ask you about your experience and see what you think about this.
Thank you very much!
