Osten has chosen Kum-ba-yah! from his Alfred book for the coming recital. Osten, please ensure it memorized smoothly, without any pausing, and watch the rhythm in the second bar of each line! Also remember to play it through twice, quite loud the first time. Play with the tips of your fingers and please trim your nails! Never practice at home with long nails.

Explore shaping Lavender’s Blue as we discussed, following the brackets I drew for you which point out the three big phrases and the 3 or 4 micro phrases within each phrase. Be careful that you don’t add an extra staccato chord in the second last bar! And practice the transition into and out of bar 7 a few times BEFORE playing through the piece by memory. Practice shaping for just 5 minutes! 10 minutes a day should be enough.
