Honours B.F.A. Mus. (York)

Sebastian has been teaching piano for over six years. Originally trained in classical piano Sebastian became interested in jazz during high school. Subsequently he studied jazz piano at York University under the instruction of Adrean Farrugia and Mark Eisenman. Having completed his degree, Sebastian’s focus has shifted to popular music, such as Electronica and RnB, and incorporating his jazz training into these genres.

Sebastian’s students study a variety of genres and styles. He has prepared students for RCM and Conservatory Canada exams, many earning top marks. Others have choose to focus on composition or improvisation. Having studied piano pedagogy while at York, Sebastian employs a variety of teaching methods in order to tailor lessons to the individual student. Sebastian has experience teaching students of all ages (including adult students) learning abilities.

Sebastian just wrapped up recording the debut EP with NALA, which was produced and recorded by Juno award-winning Orin Isaacs, as well as a brief US Tour with the Chameleon Project.

Hobbies: Roadtrips, in-line skating, cooking and trying new restaurants

Musical influences: Moloko, Jamiroquai, Keith Jarret, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, John Patton, Jamie Shields, Bud Powell

Favourite food: Basically anything made with love, especially homemade pasta with tomato sauce

Least favourite food: I try not to think about that

Favourite music: Depends on my mood, but right now I’m checking out post-dubstep

Favourite song: I keep coming back to “Forever More” by Moloko

Favourite movie: Harry Potter / Lord of the Rings / Game of Thrones

Favouirite movie music: “Amelie” or “Good Night and Good Luck”

Favourite musical theatre/opera: Haven’t gotten into that yet
