Hi everyone,

Due to a new school policy, the format of these homework posts will be a little different from now on. As usual, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me directly.

Recommended minutes to practice: 10-15 minutes per day

What to practice: The new drum beats that we worked on in your lesson

How to practice it most effectively: Practice them slowly and count the beats out loud. Begin playing just on the hi-hat with steady eighth notes while counting the snare drum/bass drum rhythm. Then try playing all three parts together. Once it starts to feel comfortable, then try playing at a faster speed.

How parents can support practice: Encouraging your child to practice regularly and helping them develop a routine is the best way to be supportive.

Recommended minutes to practice: 10-15 minutes per day

What to practice: Review the 7 drum beats from the sheet in your binder and also practice the new rhythm that we worked on in your lesson.

How to practice it most effectively: Count the rhythms out loud before you try to play them. Ensure that there is a sense of pulse and that you are counting each rhythm evenly (like we talked about in the lesson). Then try to play the rhythm exactly as you counted it without adding any pauses or rushing through any of the rhythms.

How parents can support practice: Encouraging your child to practice regularly and helping them develop a routine is the best way to be supportive.
