Hi everyone,

Next weekend I will be out of town so you will have a substitute teacher named Sam. He teaches at ABC on Mondays. I will fill him in on what each of you has been working on. Here are your practice assignments for this week:

Aidan

Keep working on the syncopated bass drum beats that I have written down in your book. Focus on maintain the eighth notes on the hi-hat and keeping a steady speed. See if you can memorize the sound of each beat and then play it without looking at the book. Practice them slowly, but also try to play each one faster to see where your limit is.

Josh

Practice all of the beats and fills that we have worked on so far from “Say It Ain’t So” by Weezer. Focus especially on the 2nd verse and chorus. Work on the timing of the transitions between sections of the song. This is usually the trickiest part. It will help to listen to the song a number of times and count along while you’re listening.

Alejandro

Play each of the eighth note exercises that I wrote down for you this week. Always count out loud while you play and make sure that you’re playing each beat on the proper count. Spend extra time practicing the one labelled “Rock Beat.” Also, listen to the song “Hey Jude” by the Beatles and see if you can hear how the Rock Beat fits in with the song.
