Hi everyone,

Happy New Year and welcome back! Here are your homework assignments for this week:

Michelle

Practice the jazz beats that we looked at first this week. Focus on playing the hi-hat (foot) on beats 2 and 4 and also getting right rhythm on the ride cymbal. After that, take a look at the 2-bar phrases that we created this week. Practice the ones we wrote down, and try making a new one on your own.

Oscar

Practice the 2-bar phrases that we worked on this week. Try to play each one several times in a row without stopping. Also, try creating new ones on your own that use different rhythms on the bass drum while keeping the hi-hat and snare drum rhythms the same.

Ronin

Great first lesson this week Ronin! We covered a lot of material in a short amount of time. This means that we can start working on some more challenging stuff soon. For this week, practice playing the rhythms and beats that we looked at. Try using the each of the rhythms as drum fills. Also, don’t limit yourself to just playing what’s on the page. Be creative and come up with new rhythms on your own.

Leonie

Take a look again at the clave rhythm exercises that we started before the break. Try switching the left hand a right hand parts. Try using your feet too. There are many different ways to practice each exercise. Also, practice the 2-bar phrases that created in your lesson and try making a new one on your own.

Nathan

Practice the 4 new beats that I wrote down for you in your book this week. Pay close attention to the rhythms on the bass drum. These beats are longer than ones that we have done in the past, so try to read them as you’re playing. Don’t just play from memory. Practice playing each one at least 4 times in a row without stopping.

Benjamin

Take a look at the new rhythm that we learned this week: “One-e-and” Practice playing it four times in a row without stopping. Also, take a look at the rhythm exercises that I wrote down in your book this week.
