Here are your homework assignments for this week:
Please practice both main beats from “Tighten Up” by the Black Keys. For the first one, focus on accenting beats 2 and 4 and try to play the sixteenth notes evenly each time. For the second beat, work on playing the fill every fourth measure.
Great work on “Black Dog” by Led Zeppelin! You can play it really well now. Practice it some more this week to try to develop even more consistency in your playing, but next week we will choose a new song to start on. Also, practice the 16th-note beat that we worked on this week.
“You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’” sounds really great! Practice it once or twice more before the recital just to keep it fresh. Also start thinking about what song you might like to learn next. Work on the 12/8 beats that we started this week and next week we’ll try something new with them.
You’re all ready for the recital! “Smells Like Teen Spirit” sounds great, and you’re going to play really well. Just keep in mind all the things we’ve worked on with the transitions – especially at the end of the chorus – and practice the song a few more times before Sunday. Next week we’ll start on something new.
Take some time this week to practice playing the rhythms in your book. Count out loud, and try to keep a steady beat while you play. Listen to how the rhythm sounds when you play it and try to remember that sound. If you hear the rhythm properly in your head, your hands will be able to play it correctly!
