Hello Everyone!

Here is the homework for this week!

Enjoy!

Fiona

Recommended daily practice time is 5-10 minutes per day

Songs:

Good work with your songs this week! You did very well. You can continue to work on Alouette. Remember to say the letter names out loud as you play to make sure you have a steady tempo.

Theory:

During our lesson we learned about the Grand staff and the music ladder. We learned that notes go on the lines and spaces of the grand staff and that they create a pattern of line space line. You can use the worksheets provided to help you with the Grand Staff.

How parents can help: Encourage your child to have a daily practice routine and ensure that they are filling out their homework logs correctly. In addition to the online homework posts, I recommend that each student keep and maintain a homework journal where they can fill in how long they practice and what they worked on that week. You can decorate it to make it fun!

Danny

Recommended daily practice time is 25-30 minutes per day

Songs:

Good work memorizing those songs this week! They were very well done. You will need to continue with Lightly row this week. Try using a metronome set from 110-120 to help you keep a steady beat. If its too fast feel free to try a slower speed. Also if it’s too slow you may also try a faster speed. You also have Grumpy old troll and Merlins wand. You may continue your work on both pieces.

Theory:

There is some corresponding theory homework for Merlin’s wand so you can complete that for homework.

Technique:

You can play G, D and A Major scales this week. Remember to find which sharps you will be needing then begin to play the scales with the metronome set from 70-80 BPM. The goal for your scales is to maintain relaxed and level wrists while playing with curved fingers. Take it slow and watch how much you press the keys. Not too hard!

Selena

Recommended daily practice time is 5-10 minutes per day

Songs:

Selena, thank you for another great lesson! It was so much fun. This week we worked on Havana. Remember what we did in our vocal warm ups where we listen for the pitches and try and match them. We have to think about it before we sing! Keep working on this one and just sing it around the house!

Technique:

We tried steps and skips in our vocal warm ups. For this week, you can use the recording to help you. In future we will continue to record the lessons so that you can have it during the week.

Isla

Recommended daily practice time is 20-25 minutes per day

Songs:

Isla, what a great lesson! This week we worked on The Climb. You may continue your work on that one. You may also want to think of something else we can add to the mix. Possibly one of your other suggestions you made from last week.

Technique:

Some of the concepts we are working on are feeling more open and mindful with out jaw and teeth. We have to think of our mouth as a concert hall. By cutting off space or making the room smaller, the sound becomes more muffled and quiet. Keep the teeth open and don’t feel locked in by your jaw. It is free to move.

In addition to the online homework posts, I recommend that each student keep and maintain a homework journal where they can fill in how long they practice and what they worked on that week.
