Kaylee

Recommended minutes to practice: 5 minutes a day

What to practice: On each string try to put your finger just behind the fret (the metal line) and try to get a sound out of the guitar. Your fingers may hurt at first, this is completely normal and when they start to hurt just take a break and then try again. Don’t forget to hold your guitar upright.

How to practice it most effectively: Trial and error are your best friend. Just keep trying different angles and different amounts of pressure until you can get a note out of the instrument. Remember don’t put your finger directly on the fret, put it just behind it.

Katarina

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 minutes a day

What to practice: Great job this week Katarina, I’m really proud of you for making it all the way through You Are My Sunshine A+++++. This week we worked on the chords, C major and F. You did a good job of singing and playing the chords so keep working on that this week. Secondly, next week we are going to start Kookabura so get ready for that!

How to practice it most effectively: Keep on doing everything you’ve been doing, singing while playing the chords is a great exercise and we will continue doing that next week.

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 minutes a day

What to practice: Practice the first few bars of a whole new world, just the melody I wrote out. Also practice the strumming pattern which is D DU UDU (D=Down, U=Up).

How to practice it most effectively: Practice the strumming pattern just how we did in class, out loud count to for and line everything up. By the end of class you had it so I totally know you can do it!

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 minutes a day

What to practice: Practice those two pentatonic licks I showed you. Secondly, be able to play any pentatonic scale anywhere on the neck and know the name of the pentatonic scale. Lastly, practice that intro riff to Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall, and listen to the whole album if you can, it’s really good.

How to practice it most effectively: To practice the pentatonics, go up one fret at a time, name the note, and then play the scale, preferably you would do this to a metronome.

Jayden

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 minutes a day

What to practice: Firstly, practice your pentatonic scale, I’ll ask to hear you play this next week and then we will extend our knowledge and play it all over the neck. Secondly, keep practicing your songs so this means Seven Nation Army, Number of The Beast, and lastly our new song Smells Like Teen Spirit. Lastly, you have to listen to three entire Nirvana songs this week and tell me if you like them and maybe what you like and dislike.

How to practice it most effectively: If you can just play the bass notes for Smells like Teen Spirit along with track. After that practice it with the power chords.

Simon

Recommended minutes to practice: 30 minutes a day

What to practice: Keep practicing the Fly Me To The Moon chords, I want you to have them memorized, and once we go back in person we will try to jam the song together which means you’ll have to play the chords for me while I solo, so they will have to have a consistent feel. Secondly, work on Dream a Little Dream of Me. I will write out the melody and we are going to practice it with a metronome. Lastly, I will test you on Major Scale note names and the quality of the thirds.

How to practice it most effectively: Just play the chords along to the track, this will help you play the chords in time and help you get the melody stronger. You can also do this for Dream a Little Dream.
