Nov 13-18 Practice
Hi everyone! Great job today. Here is what I would like you to look over for next time. You will be with David, who is another fantastic drum teacher at ABC. Please show him your best!!
Sebastian- Work on the beats in Lesson 1, especially 1-19. If you are having trouble, try to write in the counting and count along as you play.
Ella- Please have Black Parade finished and ready to play through. Also, begin thinking of a new song you would like to start working on.
Eric- Work on speeding up the Megalovania beat. Start around 200 and try to get to 250 by next week. Next, look at the Lesson 4 page and see if you can learn the entire thing. Take it nice and slow, since this is a difficult new skill. Last, listen to Take on Me and look at the chart I gave you. Try to make some sense out of it and play along a bit for your next lesson.
Jonah- Keep coming up with new beats and fills to show me! This week, try to play the beat, straight into the fill, then straight back into the beat.
Noah- Look at Lesson 4 and try to get up to number 12. Take it extremely slow at first so you have time to think about every note. It is a difficult new skill so it will be tough at first, but you will get it!
Sylvie- For mallets, keep doing Teoria, I can see you are already getting much quicker at recognising notes! Work on playing these scales on your piano at home: C, F, Bflat, G, and D. Remember to bring your book this week with the beats you wrote! See if you can have 8 of them ready for David in your next lesson.
Koel- Look at Lesson 4 and try to get up to number 12. Take it extremely slow at first so you have time to think about every note. It is a difficult new skill so it will be tough at first, but you will get it!
Sampson- Try to complete Lesson 3 this week at 70 bpm. Also, look at Lesson 4 and try to get up to number 12. Take it extremely slow at first so you have time to think about every note. It is a difficult new skill so it will be tough at first, but you will get it!
I’ll see you all in a couple weeks, in the mean time give David the best you can!!!

Nov. 6-11 Practice
Hello everyone! Thanks for the great work . as always!! Here is what I would like for you to work on.
Sebastian- Great to meet you! Please keep working on the rock beat that we did during the lesson. I’ll bring a bunch of new materials for us to start looking at next week, looking forward to it!
Eric- Work on getting Megalovania up to tempo. See if you can pick out what the fills are and start playing them. In the mean time, listen to Take on Me a few times and try to get familiar with the form of the song. I’ll have a chart for next time.
Jonah- Great job today bud, thank you for the focus!! This week, please try to come up with 3 more beats to show me, and keep working on your fill! Remember how we did it in class, play a beat, straight into the fill, then straight back into the beat.
Noah- Work on Lesson 3 and try to get it all the way to 90 BPM. If you can’t get to 90 that’s okay, just try to increase the tempo a bit each day.
Sylvie- Keep doing Teoria, and try to get a little bit quicker at it each time. This is something that gets much better if you remember to do it a bit each day, maybe only 10 minutes a day and you’ll get faster and faster! Also, try to write out 4 new beats and bring them to the lesson, along with the ones from last week.
Koel- Look at Lesson 4 and try to get it up to 90 BPM. If you can’t get to 90 that’s okay, just try to increase the tempo a bit each day. Here is a link to the packet for you to print (sorry I didn’t include it in your stack!) https://drive.google.com/file/d/12q21Pa0ouqLu4ufYaFwdcrPqMH-Sdn3A/view?usp=sharing
Sampson- Look at the bottom line of Lesson 2 as well at beats 1-20 on Lesson 3. Always play these with a metronome, set at a tempo that is comfortable for you to play. As you progress through the week, try to bring the tempo up slightly.
Thanks again everyone, I’ll see you all soon. Have fun practicing!!

STICK CONTROL
George Lawrence Stone’s Stick Control is the bible of drumming. In 1993, Modern Drummer magazine named the book one of the top 25 books of all-time. In the words of the author, it is the ideal book for improving: control, speed, flexibility, touch, rhythm, lightness, delicacy, power, endurance, preciseness of execution and muscular coordination, with extra attention given to the development of the weak hand.
4-Way Coordination
Rockin' Bass Drum, Bk 1
Written in two volumes, these books include 2- and 4- bar rock and jazz-rock beats designed for the modern drummer. Both books are designed to develop the drummer’s skill in coordinating their hands and feet. The books also offer the drummer a repertoire of exciting rhythmic patterns.
