Everyone is sounding great and I can tell you’re all practicing so that’s amazing! Good job everyone.

Andrea

Recommended minutes to practice: 15 minutes a day

What to practice: I would love to hear the C major scale in the two octaves we learned. Also I would love to hear Mary Had A Little Lamb in both octaves. Keep working on the D chord it’ll come along. Lastly our new project is the Ed Sheeran song so work on that mostly this week. It’s more complex than other things we’ve learned but I think you’ve got it. Don’t forget about Come as You Are, I’m going to randomly ask you to play that some day so have it prepped.

How to practice it most effectively: Again, I sound like a broken record, do everything SUPER slowly, especially transitioning between chords, just let your fingers build the muscle memory as well as try to make sure your fingers aren’t flying everywhere but smoothly transitioning from one chord to the next.

Recommended minutes to practice: 20 minutes a day

What to practice: I would love to hear One Love next week, play along with the track this will help you internalize the rhythm. Also figure out that last little bit of the Havana melody as well as be super confident with that strumming pattern. Lastly, I’ll want to hear your C major scale.

How to practice it most effectively: Playing along with the tracks will really help your sense of rhythm. Rhythm is the most important part of music so you want this to be a strong area of your playing.

What to practice: Next week I want to see if you can remember the rhymes we made to remember the names of the strings. Also I want to hear the chords to Stand By Me memorized. We also worked on the C major scale.

How to practice it most effectively: If you need to look in your book to figure out the chords that’s okay for the first few days but really try to push yourself to remember the chords.

Eamon

Recommended minutes to practice: 45 minutes a day

What to practice: See if you can hear the chords to Aeroplane Over The Sea. If you lift the chords to the bridge as well that would great but not required. I’ll ask to hear those warm ups again next week, you did a good job but I want you to get them to sound even smoother. Also we worked on some jazz chords, Amin7, Dmin9, G13, Cmajor7, and F Major7, I’ll want to hear those next week.

How to practice it most effectively: Listen to the song a lot when you’re lifting chords and try and get the sound in your head and then pick up the instrument and try to emulate it. With the jazz chords just take your time and analyze your hand movements to make sure your fingers are moving efficiently  to the next chord shape.

Recommended minutes to practice: 30 minutes a day

What to practice: You are learning everything really quick this is great! We worked on Banana Pancakes and Wish you were here so I would love to hear those next week.

How to practice it most effectively: Playing along to a youtube video at 50 percent speed for both songs will really help you get what the parts are supposed to sound like and feel. Next week we’ll look at the rest of the solo and the bridge section to Banana Pancakes.
