Hi everyone,

Here are your homework assignments for this week:

Aidan

Keep working on the accent patterns to see if you can play them faster. You’ve made good progress on them, but it would be great if you can get even more comfortable with them. Just five minutes a day will make a big difference! Also, work on the chorus beat from Travellin’ by Matt Mays.

Sebastian

Spend some time this week working on the coordination exercises that we did in your lesson. Remember that the hi-hat is played with the right hand, the snare is played with the left, and the bass drum is played by the right foot. You can practice these exercises sitting in a chair with a practice pad on your lap. Count out loud “1 2 3 4” and pay close attention to which drum is being played on each beat.

Cathy

Practice the ghost note exercises for next lesson. Focus on controlling the movement of your left hand and making sure the ghost notes are very soft while the regular notes are loud. Also, keep working on Travellin’. See if you can push the tempo a bit to match the speed of the song.

Jonah and Harper

Practice your paradiddles this week. Start very slowly, and then see if you can speed them up without changing the sticking pattern (RLRR LRLL). As they start to feel more comfortable, try moving them around the drums. Try playing all the right-hand notes on the toms and the left-hand notes on the snare.
