Next Saturday I will be out of town so you will have a substitute drum teacher. I will let the sub know what each of you has been working on. Here are your practice assignments for this week:
Practice transitioning between the verse beat and the chorus beat in “Can’t Stop” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Take it slow, but be careful not to change speed as you move from one beat to another. If you’re having trouble, then practice the beats individually first, then try putting them together. Also, practice the open hi-hat note at the end of the verse beat. This means coordinating your feet to move up together and then come down together on the down beat.
Practice the two new rudiments that we worked on this week: double strokes and paradiddles. Work on the bounce-pull technique that I showed you. Make sure that the stick can bounce within your hand without dropping it. Try to let it bounce and then pull it back with your fingers all in one motion. Watch your wrist – it should only move down and up once for each bounce-pull.
