Nice work on getting Bb Major in tune!
For this week:
- Use a metronome: https://www.musicca.com/metronome is a good online one
- Warm up:
- Set the metronome to 60bpm and play a Low D, middle half hole D, high D, then back down to Middle D, Low D 4 beats each note
- Keep an eye on your chromatic tuner to make sure that each note is in tune
- try to add more/faster air as you go up the octave and keep that air flowing
- on the way down, drop your jaw and think of saying “ah” to drop the pitch
- Scales:
- Bb Major
- with the metronome, see if you can play it in eighth notes at 72 to the quarter note
- Increase the tempo one beat at a time if you make no mistakes
- If you make a mistake, decrease the tempo by 2 beats and try again
- G Minor harmonic
- with the metronome, see if you can play it up to 72 to the quarter in eighth notes
- Gminor melodic
- with the metronome, see if you can play it up to 72 to the quarter in eighth notes
- Bb Major
Music books!
If you are able, book 1 and 2 of the Gekeler method are great and also have a super nice fingering chart. The Barret is The Oboe Bible… and free to download. For next time, see if you can have a list of music you like -it doesn’t have to be oboe music, and we’ll see if we can find some of it to play.
