Hi everyone, good work this week! Please find your name below for homework suggestions and for some of you, the book I’d like you to purchase. Practicing goals for all students would be 4-5 days out of the week.

Ezra

-Work on your G major scale and triads this week — try to play them hands separately twice a day. Can you start putting them hands together?
-In the Hall — practice the first page, hands separately. Try same the names out loud as you play to reinforce. Please try to remember to bring your music next week!
-Listen to My Funny Valentine and It Don’t Mean a Thing (If it Ain’t Got that Swing) — I’ll have easy versions of these for you next week that we can start.

Doan

-Try to practice the breathing exercises and sirens/sighs 4 days this week. Remember to fill the lungs and expand at the waist, and as you exhale, try to keep the abdominal area firm and expanded. Keep track of how many seconds your breath lasts for!
-Slide down from “sol” to “do” (for e.g. G to C) trying to keep the tone connected (see if you can smooth out that switch of vocal register from head voice (light, fluffy) to chest voice (more like speaking tone). Work up and down the scale. We can go over this more next week if this doesn’t make sense!
-If you have a chance to do any of the beginning exercises in the workbook like we discussed, go for it!

Anastasiya

-Listen to Tomorrow from Annie in preparation for us starting it next week
-Practice “A Million Dreams” along with an instrumental/karaoke track if you can find one and work on the changes to the melody we’ve made
-As we discussed in class, we’ll make the shift from a standard lesson book to me bringing in some songs for you to work on, and we’ll use a theory book instead to reinforce note-reading skills. The theory book I’d like you to get is called “Celebrate Theory Level 1” which can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.ca/TCT01-Celebrate-Theory-Royal-Conservatory/dp/1554408040/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=celebrate+theory+1&qid=1579209556&sr=8-1
-Next week I’ll bring some Disney song options for you for piano :)

Romi

-Hickory Dickory Dock – try to practice RH two times per day, skipping over the “tick tocks” for now. Aim to make it smooth and confident!
-Knight/Forest – practice play them one right after the other as if it’s all one piece
-Rudolph — practice up until the line we drew, remembering to watch for the differences between Part 1 and Part 2

Eliana

-practice the words to All Is Found
-Are there any other songs you’d like to learn?
-practice some of the new cats we came up with (movie cat, jazz cat), and try singing them at different volumes (quiet and loud)

Jeremiah

-find your music duotang! Or get a new one for next week :)
-practice holding your hands in the proper piano position (imagine you are holding a ball and then flip your hand over and place your fingers down, keeping the shape of the ball). How long can you keep your fingers supported in this position?!
-To support your goal of learning to read music better, I would suggest getting a book called “I Can Read Music” which can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.ca/Can-Read-Music-Beginning-Reading/dp/1616770481/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=i+can+read+music&qid=1579209778&sr=8-1
-I’ll bring in some songs to start working on next week :)

Gianna

-even if you don’t have access to a piano, see if you can imagine playing the C major scale in your head and practice the finger patterns on a table top. Remember: 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on the way up, and 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1 on the way down
