B.Mus (U of T) in-progress
Jakob Durst is a Toronto-based saxophonist currently studying at the University of Toronto. Although drawing his main influence from creative and improvised music, namely the Black American Art-form “Jazz”, he is also interested in a variety of other musical stylings such as Classical, Latin, and African music. Jakob’s primary instrument is the saxophone, however he has also learned and studied a variety of other instruments, such as flute, clarinet, and piano. As a working musician, Jakob has had many wonderful performance opportunities, appearing at the Rex Jazz and Blues Bar, the Jazz Room, the River Run Centre, and various other clubs and festivals across Ontario.
Jakob has also been fortunate to study and perform with world-class artists, including Mike Murley, Bobby Carcasses, Marianne Trudel, Kelly Jefferson, and Luis Deniz. As a teacher, Jakob hopes to pass on his knowledge and skill to developing musicians, while instilling an appreciation and love for all things music in his students!
