Music Together® classes in Dufferin Grove

ABC Academy of Music offers Music Together® classes in Dufferin Grove, Toronto, taught from our St. Clair West studio at 12 Conway Ave, Toronto M6E 1H2, near Corso Italia and west of Dufferin Street. We have been an authorized Music Together center since 2003, which means our teachers complete the full Music Together teacher-training program and renew that authorization regularly. A 10-week season runs $99.97 per session, billed as a seasonal block. Private lessons begin at $55.38 for 30 minutes or $64.81 for 45 minutes, and a trial lesson is $20. Classes welcome children from birth through age five, with a caregiver present at every session. Siblings in that age range may attend together. Our teachers hold university music degrees or equivalent conservatory credentials, and we offer a free demo class so families can see the program before committing. Rating: 4.8 from 150 students on Google.

What happens in a Music Together class

A typical 45-minute session moves through a familiar arc: a hello song using each child’s name, rhythm instrument play, movement activities where caregivers carry or rock their children through the beat, echo songs, and quieter lullabies near the end. The same songs appear every week across the full 10-week season. That repetition is deliberate. Children build musical intuition the same way they build language: by hearing the same material eight to ten times until they can anticipate what comes next and fill it in. A child who was silent in week one may be humming the melody by week five and singing words by week nine. A drop-in model breaks that accumulation, which is why Music Together runs as a seasonal commitment rather than a casual class.

Caregivers are not the audience. They are the fuel. When a parent sings directly to their child, faces them, and claps with them, the child’s engagement roughly doubles. A caregiver who sits back and watches is water on the fire. Singing quality does not matter at all. Presence and willingness to participate are everything.

Getting to the studio from Dufferin Grove

The studio is at 12 Conway Ave, Toronto M6E 1H2, near St. Clair Ave W and Wychwood Ave, one block from the Wychwood Barns. From Dufferin Grove, take the 29 Dufferin bus north from Dufferin Station to St. Clair: under 15 minutes. Families who prefer to walk from Christie Pits can reach the studio in about 20 minutes along Dufferin Street north to St. Clair, then one block west. Street parking is available on Conway Ave and surrounding streets, with metered spots on St. Clair Ave W for families driving from further afield.

What children gain at each age

A six-month-old absorbs tonality and rhythmic patterning without any deliberate effort. Being bounced and rocked through the beat matters for later coordination and musical memory. A three-year-old is actively clapping, attempting words, and watching the teacher intently. A five-year-old at the older end of the age range is often the most confident participant in the room, guiding younger children through gestures they have known for seasons.

After the Music Together years, Rhythm Kids at select locations provides a bridge for ages four to seven. From there, children can begin private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, or another instrument. Full details are on our teen lessons page for older students.

From Dufferin Grove, take the 29 Dufferin bus north from Dufferin Station to St. Clair: under 15 minutes. Street parking is available on Conway Ave and nearby streets. ABC Academy has multiple credentialed Music Together teachers, so we can match your child to the right fit rather than assigning whoever is available. We have a guaranteed teacher-match policy: if the first pairing is not a fit, we reassign before the second class. We operate from two locations, St. Clair West and our Brampton location, and offer RCM exam preparation for students who move into private lessons. Recreational learners are equally welcome and make up the majority of our students. An independent teacher is one person; if they are unavailable for a session, your season loses that week.
Drop-in classes offer exposure, but they do not build musical literacy the way a seasonal curriculum does. The Music Together songs repeat across all 10 weeks: children hear them until they can anticipate them, fill in gaps, and eventually carry them independently. That accumulation breaks every time a week is skipped. If you want to try first, we offer a free demo class.
Caregivers are expected to participate actively: singing, clapping, moving with the child. An engaged caregiver is fuel to the fire; a distracted one sitting at the side is water on the fire. Singing quality is completely irrelevant. What matters is that your child can see you fully present and willing.
Birth through age five, with a caregiver attending every class. Siblings of different ages within that range can be in the same class. After five, Rhythm Kids at select locations bridges ages four to seven, and private lessons in piano, guitar, or voice begin from age five onward.
Many families pair a Music Together session at the St. Clair West studio with time at Dufferin Grove Park or Christie Pits before or after. Morning class windows typically finish before lunch. Contact us to find session times available this season.
