What age is Music Together designed for?

The program is designed for children from birth to age five, attended with a caregiver. Siblings of different ages in that range can attend the same class together. The material is structured so that a two-year-old and a four-year-old both get something meaningful from the same session.

Does the caregiver have to sing, or can they just watch?

Caregivers are expected to participate u2014 singing, clapping, moving with their child. This is part of the design, not just encouragement. Children learn music by watching and copying the adults closest to them. You don't need to be musical; you just need to show up and try. That's enough.

Children who go through Music Together develop a musical ear and a comfort with rhythm before they ever pick up an instrument. You don’t wait until a child can discuss grammar before reading to them. Music Together applies the same logic, starting from birth.

ABC Academy is an official Music Together licensee, which means we use the program as it was designed and trained — not a homemade version of it. Emma Berube, a mezzo-soprano with a Bachelor of Music from Western, is one of our Music Together teachers at 2180 Bayview Ave. She works with families whose children range from newborns to five-year-olds, and caregivers attend every class. That’s not optional — it’s the method. You sing and move alongside your child, and that shared experience is what makes it work.

For Lawrence Park families, the studio is five minutes from Lawrence Station, close to the Lawrence Park Collegiate end of Bayview. Morning weekend classes are the most popular time slot. A season runs 10 weeks. Current rates are on our tuition page.
