Hi everyone,

Here are your homework assignments for this week:

Michelle

Practice the beats and rhythms that we worked on from “New Divide” by Linkin Park. Focus especially on the accent pattern played on the low tom at the very beginning. Play it much slower than it goes in the song in order to develop accuracy and consistency in the rhythm.

Oscar

Keep working on the new beat from “Black Dog” by Led Zeppelin. Take it slow until you can play it accurately, and then try to speed it up. The challenge is that there is no bass drum on beat 1, so you need to feel the emphasis of beat 1 in your right hand instead of your foot.

Ronin

Practice all the elements of “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’” by Judas Priest that we’ve worked on so far. Focus on transitions between sections, and see if you can play longer sections of the music together without stopping. Focus particularly on getting into and out of the bridge section.

Nathan

Great work on the accent patterns this week! You were really focussed when we were practicing them and as a result they sound a lot better than they did before. This shows why focussed practice is so important! Take a look at the introduction to “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. I have written down the opening drum fill and beat in your book.

Benjamin

Take a look at the accent patterns in your book again this week. They’re sounding a lot better already than when we first started working on them! Practice especially accent pattern #4 which is new this week. Each of the two accents is played by a different hand.
