The sign-up sheets are now at the front desk for our recital on December 6th. Timings are 12:00 noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. There is a wait-list for a 3 p.m. time, but I don’t think we are going to need it based on the last couple of years’ recitals. Please save a few minutes this week and next at the end of lessons to get parents and students to sign up. It is OK for them to call in with their preferred time if they don’t know while they are here.
Attendance & Participation
This year we are changing our messaging to parents about optional attendance and participation.
Seeing other people perform live, and being an audience member are vital parts of a good music education, so we are now telling parents that attendance is “mandatory”, and participation is optional. Obviously there is no forcing anyone to come, but it the benefits to the students is tangible. This will also increase participation over time, as shy students see other students of varying ages take up the challenges of playing live. If parents ask about this, you’ll want to use the air quotes when saying “mandatory”, and just emphasize the importance that live performance plays in a well-rounded music education.
The school also send missives to them about this on a regular basis.
