Music Together classes near Lytton Park
Barnaby Kerekes has been running ABC Academy of Music since 2003 and teaching Music Together himself for most of that time. When he talks about the program, he doesn’t describe it in terms of curriculum or outcomes. He describes a three-year-old singing a melody back after hearing it twice, unprompted — and a parent in the corner of the room realizing they’ve been singing along without noticing. That’s the dynamic Music Together is built around. It’s not a performance class. It’s something closer to a weekly habit that gets into both of you.
The studio is at 2180 Bayview Ave, about six minutes from the Avenue & Lawrence corridor that marks the Lytton Park side of the neighbourhood. Lawrence Station is a short walk, and families from the Lytton Park and Glenview Park area typically drive south on Yonge or cut across on Lawrence. The classes run on weekend mornings and draw families from across the north Toronto stretch of Yonge.
A season is 10 weeks. We offer a free demo class before any commitment. Current rates are on our tuition page. Children from birth to five attend with a caregiver — the caregiver participates, not just watches.
ABC is one of the only schools in Toronto that’s both an official Music Together licensee and a full private instrument school. Children who start in Music Together and later want individual piano or guitar lessons can stay at the same studio, with teachers who already know the family.

Most families from that part of the neighbourhood drive — six to eight minutes depending on Lawrence or Yonge. Glenview Park is a bit closer and is on a natural route between Lytton Park and the studio for families who want to walk part of the way.
- My toddler doesn’t sit still for anything. Will Music Together work for them?
- Music Together classes are designed around the reality that toddlers move constantly. The format uses that energy rather than fighting it. Children who seem to be running in circles are still absorbing what’s happening in the room. You don’t need a child who follows directions — you need a child who can be in the same space as music for 45 minutes.
- Can we come to a demo class before paying for a full season?
- Yes. We offer one free demo class so you can experience the format with your child before making any commitment. The demo is a real class, not a shortened preview.
- Is this the same Music Together program offered through other providers in Toronto?
- Yes — same curriculum, same songs, same teacher training standard. ABC Academy is a registered Music Together licensee, verified on the Music Together website. The difference between providers is the teachers, the studio environment, and whether the school offers anything beyond Music Together — we do, including private lessons for older children at the same location.
