Cello, like piano, is an extremely popular choice for parents looking to start their kids in music lessons. We offer private cello lessons for all ages both in-person and online at ABC Academy of Music in Toronto.
Getting Started on Cello
We are very big on basics as they provide you the necessary skills to get to your musical interests sooner! Many people are interested in pursuing Royal Conservatory Examinations, or just RCM repertoire to advance in a a measured way. Others want to play jazz, pop music, country music, and contemporary music. We can also help you prepare for university or college cello auditions.
Buying or Renting a Cello
Cellos (or Celli) are available in many different sizes, from full-size (called 4/4), down to very small sizes for young, small children. It is generally impractical to buy small cellos, as children grow, so consider renting one instead. Once your child reaches full size you can invest in a good cello, one that reflects your musical growth and potential. Our teachers can make a good recommendation for the correct size, but one of our recommended retailers will also be able to size your child for the right cello.
Adult cello students will always be on a full-sized instrument and should not worry too much about an expensive instrument or bow in the beginning. Getting the basics of bowing, and technique down can take some time. Once you have achieved good playing basics, you can look at switching from an inexpensive rental or purchase to something a little more advanced.
We will be happy to recommend a reliable retailer to set you up with the correct instrument for you.
