What Lawrence Park students learn
Beginners spend the first several weeks on the basics that make everything after easier: correct hand position, tuning, a first handful of chords or notes, and simple rhythm. Most students play something recognizable within the first few lessons, which matters for staying motivated. From there, lessons build toward more advanced technique, reading (if the student wants it), and repertoire chosen around what the student actually enjoys listening to. Lesson length is 30 or 45 minutes: 30-minute lessons suit younger children and beginners still building concentration, while 45 minutes gives older students room to cover technique, repertoire, and some theory in the same session.
