What happens in a Music Together® class
A typical 45-minute session moves through several kinds of music-making: a hello song that names each child, rhythm instrument exploration with egg shakers and hand drums, movement songs involving the whole body, and quieter lullabies toward the end. The teacher sings live throughout. No recordings, no screen time.
The same collection of songs, chants, and rhythm activities repeats across all ten weeks. Young children need to hear a song eight to ten times before they can anticipate the melody, and more repetitions before they fill in a lyric or tap the beat. By mid-season you will hear your child humming a phrase in the car. That accumulation is what the curriculum is built around.
Caregivers attend every class, and what you do matters. An engaged caregiver singing and moving is fuel to the fire. A distracted one is water on the fire. Singing quality is irrelevant; presence and effort are not. No musical background is required. Grandparents and nannies are welcome in your place.
Getting to our studio from Corso Italia
The studio at 12 Conway Ave is about five minutes east of Corso Italia along St. Clair Avenue West. From St. Clair and Dufferin, continue east to Wychwood Avenue and turn left. Conway Ave is the second street on the right. Street parking is available on Conway Ave and nearby residential streets.
By TTC, take the 512 St. Clair streetcar to Wychwood Ave and walk two minutes north. Wychwood Barns is close by, so it is easy to pair a class with the farmers market or a visit to Dufferin Grove Park on the same trip.
What children get at different ages
A six-month-old experiences the room through sound, rhythm, and the caregiver’s face, building early tonal and rhythmic patterns. A three-year-old begins matching pitch on familiar phrases and keeping a rough beat. By four or five, children anticipate song structure and are ready for the next step.
After age five, Rhythm Kids is available at select locations as a bridge program. From there, children can move into private piano, guitar, or singing lessons. The path toward RCM preparation is well-travelled at our studio; recreational learners who want no exam path are equally at home.
