Music Together® classes in Rosedale
ABC Academy of Music offers Music Together® classes for families in Rosedale, Toronto, taught from our Lawrence Park studio at 2180 Bayview Ave (at Lawrence & Bayview), North York M4N 3K7. We have been an authorized Music Together center since 2003, making us one of Toronto’s longest-running homes for this program. Classes run in 10-week seasons for children from birth through age five, with a caregiver present in every class. Seasonal class fees are on our tuition page; when children move into private instrument study, lessons are $55.38 for 30 minutes or $64.81 for 45 minutes, and a trial lesson is $20. What happens in a Music Together class
A typical 45-minute session follows a consistent arc: a hello song that names each child, small rhythm instruments passed around the circle (egg shakers, hand drums, lummi sticks), full-body movement songs where caregivers sway or lift to the beat, quieter lullabies toward the end, and a goodbye song to close. No recordings, no screens.
The same songs repeat across all ten weeks of a season. Young children need to hear a piece eight to ten times before they begin to anticipate the melody, and several more before they fill in a lyric on their own. By week five or six, most children are humming something in the car on the way home down Mount Pleasant. That accumulation is the curriculum, which is why Music Together enrolls by the season rather than class by class.
Caregivers attend every class as active participants. An engaged caregiver who sings along and makes eye contact during the lullaby is fuel to the fire of a child’s musical attention. A caregiver who sits back and checks a phone is water on that fire. Singing quality does not matter. Presence does.
Getting to our Lawrence Park studio from Rosedale
Rosedale sits between Yonge and Mount Pleasant, north of Bloor. The most direct drive is Mount Pleasant north to Eglinton, east to Bayview, then north on Bayview to Lawrence: about twelve minutes. From the Yonge and Summerhill side, go north on Yonge to Lawrence, then east on Lawrence to Bayview.
By TTC, take the Yonge line north from Rosedale Station to Lawrence Station, then the 52 Lawrence East bus east to Bayview, fifteen to eighteen minutes total. Sunnybrook Park is directly across Bayview, and Lawrence Park Ravine is an easy walk after class. Bayview Village is a few minutes north. Parking: small lot behind the building, paid lot across Bayview, and metered street spots; Saturday sessions fill the small lot early, so the paid lot is the reliable backup.
What children gain at each stage
A six-month-old absorbs pitch and pulse through listening and the physical sensation of being rocked to a beat. By age two or three, children begin to echo phrases, match claps to the rhythm, and visibly anticipate gestures they have seen before. A five-year-old in a mixed-age class often models for younger children and begins to internalize tempo and dynamics.
After Music Together, children aged four to seven can move into Rhythm Kids, available at select locations, which bridges group music play with foundational listening skills. From age five onward, children are ready for private lessons in piano, guitar, singing, or other instruments at our Lawrence Park studio.
