Drum lesson — Forest Hill

Drum lessons for Forest Hill families

Learning drums early builds rhythm sense and motor coordination. Many kids who start piano or strings later find drums easier because the foundational timing is already there. The hard part isn’t learning drums — it’s finding a teacher who knows how to scale from beginner strokes to songs a kid actually wants to play.

Forest Hill is about a 12-minute drive from our Lawrence Park studio. Families near Spadina and St. Clair, or closer to Forest Hill Village, can reach the studio following the neighbourhood’s main roads north to Lawrence. Our private-lesson teachers hold university music degrees or the equivalent.

Drum lessons run 30 or 45 minutes. Current rates are on our tuition page. A 30-minute lesson is $55.38 and a 45-minute lesson is $64.81; a trial lesson is $20. Private drums begin at age 5. We work with students on acoustic drums, electronic drum kits, and hand drums depending on what fits your space and goals.

We offer up to 2 guaranteed make-up lessons per teaching year for student absences. Additional make-ups apply for teacher absences and weather closures. See our policies page for the full details. We’ve been in business since 2003.

Frequently asked questions about drum lessons for Forest Hill families

Do I need to have an acoustic drum kit at home to take lessons?
No. Many students start on an electronic kit or practice pad. Some teachers focus on hand drums or world percussion first. We match the instrument to what works in your home.
What if my child wants to play the kit but has never played any instrument before?
That’s common. Drums don’t require reading music fluency to start — you can learn by ear and build reading skills as you go. Our teachers adapt the pace to where each student is.
Is 12 minutes from Forest Hill a realistic weekly drive?
For most families it is. The drive from Forest Hill to our Lawrence Park studio is straightforward, and many students combine the lesson with a nearby errand.
Can a drums student take group classes instead of private lessons?
We focus on private drums lessons at our Lawrence Park location. If you’re interested in exploring group drum classes or other group programs, please contact us and we can discuss what might work.
