Drum lesson — Leaside

Drum lessons for Leaside families

Drums aren’t just about speed and power. Good drummers listen to everything around them — the bass, the melody, the space between the notes. That’s why students who work with patient, thoughtful teachers often surprise their parents with how far they go.

Our Lawrence Park studio sits about eight minutes north of Bayview & Eglinton. From Leaside Library or Serena Gundy Park, that’s a straightforward drive up Bayview. Families near Laird & Eglinton find it a realistic weekly trip. Our private-lesson teachers hold university music degrees or the equivalent.

Drum lessons run 30 or 45 minutes. We work with students from age 5 onward. Current rates are on our tuition page. A 30-minute lesson is $55.38 and a 45-minute lesson is $64.81; a trial lesson is $20. Students usually start on a practice pad or beginner acoustic drum kit at home; we’ll talk through what makes sense for your child’s stage.

Frequently asked questions about drum lessons for Leaside families

My child wants to learn drums but we live in an apartment. Is that realistic?
Many students start on a practice pad, which is quiet enough for apartment living. As they progress and their commitment grows, some families add a beginner acoustic kit to a bedroom or basement. Your teacher can advise on timing and what to expect.
How often should my child take lessons?
Most students benefit from weekly lessons. Some families start bi-weekly and move to weekly after a few months once the student is engaged. Your teacher will give honest feedback about what’s working.
Do I need to know anything about drums to support my child’s practice at home?
No. You mainly need to make sure practice space is available and consistent. The teacher will give specific exercises each week and ask how practice is going.
What’s the make-up policy for missed lessons?
We offer up to 2 guaranteed make-up lessons per teaching year for student absences. See our policies page for details on make-ups for teacher absences and weather closures.
