Drum lessons for Wychwood families
Learning drums means learning rhythm and coordination at the same time. Most kids pick up basic beats in the first few lessons, but keeping that momentum depends on having a teacher who knows how to scale from simple patterns to the material kids actually want to play.

Our St. Clair West studio at 12 Conway Ave is a short walk or drive from the heart of Wychwood, just west of Bathurst near St. Clair. Families near Christie or Davenport will find it an easy weekly trip. Our private-lesson teachers hold university music degrees or the equivalent.
Drum lessons run 30 or 45 minutes. Current rates are on our tuition page. A 30-minute lesson is $55.38 and a 45-minute lesson is $64.81; a trial lesson is $20. Private drums begin at age 5. For students who need an acoustic setup at home, we can recommend a starter drum kit with weighted-key fundamentals and suggest a Yamaha DDX or similar electronic option that keeps volume manageable in apartment settings.

- Weekly lessons are the standard. Some students start with biweekly and move to weekly once they have a practice routine in place.
- What should we expect at home?
- Most teachers recommend 20 to 30 minutes of practice between lessons. That doesn’t mean a full drum kit in the living room — many students use a practice pad or electronic kit at lower volumes.
- My child wants to play rock and jazz. Can one teacher cover both?
- Yes. Our teachers work across multiple styles. The teacher will ask what material your child is interested in and build lessons around that.
- What if a lesson falls on a day we can’t make it?
- We offer up to 2 guaranteed make-up lessons per teaching year for student absences. Additional make-ups apply for teacher absences and weather closures. See our policies page for details.
