Casa Loma sits near Spadina and Davenport, roughly six kilometres southwest of the Lawrence Park studio at Bayview and Lawrence. The most direct car route heads north on Avenue Road or Yonge Street to Lawrence Avenue, then east on Lawrence to Bayview Ave. In normal traffic that runs around fifteen to twenty minutes. Bayview moves well once you clear Eglinton, and the studio neighbourhood around Lawrence Park Ravine is noticeably quieter than the Yonge corridor. Parking at 2180 Bayview Ave is easy: there is a small lot behind the building, a paid lot directly across Bayview, and metered street parking on side streets nearby. By transit, take the Yonge subway north to Lawrence Station, then the 51 Lawrence East bus east to Bayview, roughly thirty-five minutes door to door. Families who cycle can use the Bayview corridor through Lawrence Park Ravine and past Sunnybrook Park. Bayview Village is a few minutes north of the studio on the same road.
In the first six months of piano lessons, beginners build the foundations that matter most: reading treble and bass clef simultaneously, understanding basic rhythms, and training the hands to work independently. Technique work includes proper wrist height, curved fingers, and relaxed forearms, habits that prevent injury and speed learning. We use age-appropriate method books, including Alfred Basic Piano for children and adapted materials for adult beginners. Children who start at age five take 30-minute lessons; by age eight or nine many move to 45 minutes, which allows time for scales, sight-reading, and a full piece. Teens and adults often start at 45 minutes if they have prior experience. By the end of six months, most students play simple hands-together pieces and read notes across both staves. Teachers adjust pace based on what each student retains between lessons.
