Getting to our studio from the Annex
The Annex runs roughly between Spadina and Bathurst, with Bloor Street as its southern spine and Dupont to the north. From that neighbourhood, our studio at 12 Conway Ave, Toronto M6E 1H2 is a straightforward trip southwest. By car, head west on Bloor, turn north on Dufferin or Ossington, and pick up St. Clair Ave W to Conway Ave. Realistic driving time from Bloor and Bathurst is around 18 to 22 minutes. By TTC, take the 512 St. Clair streetcar from its eastern terminus near Yonge, or board westbound at Christie Station; the ride to Wychwood Ave is around 25 to 30 minutes total including the short walk south to Conway. Street parking on Conway Ave and surrounding streets is generally available on weekday afternoons and evenings. Wychwood Barns is one block north on Wychwood Ave. Christie Pits and Dufferin Grove Park are both within easy reach, making the area familiar to most Annex families who already head west for weekend activities.
What singing lessons cover
In the first six months, students learn how breathing actually supports sound, which is the foundation everything else rests on. Teachers address posture, diaphragm support, and how to release tension in the jaw and shoulders, because tension is the most common thing that limits a developing voice. Students work through simple exercises on vowels and consonants before moving to short songs chosen for their range. By months four to six, many beginners are sustaining notes with consistent tone and building a usable range of roughly an octave.
Children aged 5 and up work on pitch matching, basic breath control, and the confidence to sing alone in a room with an adult. Teens often come with specific goals: school auditions, choir, musical theatre, or simply understanding the voice they already have. Adults cover everything from complete beginner work to classical technique, pop style, or RCM Grade preparation. Lesson length of 30 minutes suits younger children and new starters; 45 minutes is better for older students who want time to work through repertoire and technique in the same session. Your teacher will advise on length at the trial lesson.
