Music Together® classes in Casa Loma
ABC Academy of Music offers Music Together® classes in the Casa Loma area, taught from our Lawrence Park studio at 2180 Bayview Ave (at Lawrence and Bayview), North York M4N 3K7. We’ve been an authorized Music Together center in Toronto since 2003. Our 10-week seasonal program serves children from birth through age five, with a caregiver attending every class. Music Together® lessons are priced per season; visit our rates page for current tuition. A trial demo class is $20. Regular private lessons, for children who are ready to transition, are $55.38 for 30 minutes or $64.81 for 45 minutes. What happens in a Music Together® class
A typical 45-minute session at our Lawrence Park studio moves through several kinds of musical activity: a hello song that anchors the group in familiar territory, rhythm instrument play, movement songs where caregivers dance with their children, and quieter lullabies near the end to bring energy down gently. The room is organized around participation, not performance.
The same songs repeat across all 10 weeks of the season. That repetition is the point. A nine-month-old hearing “Shake the Rattle” for the first time mostly watches. By week four, that same child anticipates the moment the rhythm changes and reaches for the instrument before it’s offered. By week eight, they may vocalize the melodic shape before the words arrive. Children build musical intuition the same way they build language: through accumulated, repeated exposure, not instruction. A drop-in model breaks that accumulation and flattens the development arc.
Caregiver participation is not optional, and it’s not incidental. An engaged caregiver who sings along, even imperfectly, is fuel to the fire. A caregiver looking at a phone is water on it. Singing quality does not matter. Presence and willingness to try are what signal to the child that music is worth their attention.
Getting from Casa Loma to our Lawrence Park studio
From Casa Loma, the Lawrence Park studio at 2180 Bayview Ave is a straightforward trip, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by car depending on time of day. Head north on Spadina or Avenue Road to Lawrence Ave, then east to Bayview. The studio sits at the corner of Bayview and Lawrence, in a building on the south-east corner.
By TTC, take the 33 Forest Hill bus or the 52 St. Clair West bus east to Yonge, then transfer to the 97 Yonge bus north to Lawrence, and catch the 124 Sunnybrook bus east to Bayview. Total travel is around 25 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, the 11 Bayview bus runs the length of Bayview and stops directly at Lawrence.
Parking is available in a small lot behind the building off Bayview, in the paid lot across Bayview Ave, or at metered spots along Bayview and Lawrence. For morning classes, street parking is usually available within a short walk. Sunnybrook Park and Lawrence Park Ravine are nearby, and many families combine a class at the studio with a walk through the ravine afterward.
What children at different ages get from Music Together®
A six-month-old mostly absorbs: the sound of a familiar voice singing, the rhythm of being held and moved, the contrast between loud and soft. That early exposure lays groundwork the child carries forward without knowing it.
A three-year-old is actively experimenting. They may sing fragments of melody, march or sway on beat, and use the instruments with more intention. They’re not performing, but they’re processing the musical structure around them and responding to it.
A five-year-old in Music Together® is ready to move into a bridging program. Rhythm Kids, available at select locations, extends the group music experience for children aged four to seven, building rhythmic literacy and readiness for individual study. From there, children can move into private lessons in piano, guitar, singing, or other instruments, drawing on the musical foundation built in their early years.
